Vote for the Austin-area girls high school athlete of the week


It’s time to make your choice for the Thomas J. Henry Austin-Area Girls Athlete of the Week for March 10-15.

Cedar Ridge softball player Caitlin Benningfield, who struck out 12 in a complete-game shutout and homered against Stony Point, won the online vote for the week of March 3-8. Vista Ridge soccer player J Mossholder won the boys vote.

We have seven nominees this week — five softball players and two soccer players.

Ciana Arguijo, Rouse softball

Arguijo had eight hits in four games, including a double and a home run while scoring seven runs and driving in four runs.

Amelia Clark, Lake Travis soccer

Clark scored her school-record 51st goal as the Cavaliers won District 26-6A by blanking Austin High 4-0.

Greta Gretch, Round Rock softball

Gretch drove in four runs on two hits, including a home run as Round Rock beat Westwood 8-2.

Ella Griesenbeck, Bastrop softball

Griesenbeck pitched a complete game shutout with nine strikeouts as Bastrop beat Crockett 10-0 to improve to 4-0 in District 24-5A.

Sophia Martin, Westlake soccer

Martin notched her eighth clean sheet in 10 matches as the Chaps closed out District 26-6A with a 3-0 win.  Martin has allowed only two goals against her all season.

Brianna Moreno, Stony Point softball

Moreno had two home runs and six RBIs to lead the Tigers to a 14-0 win over McNeil.

Jadyn Teeter, Johnson softball

Teeter  pitched a complete game six-hitter, striking out six as the Jaguars defeated Clemens 5-1 to improve to 14-1-1 on the season and 3-0 in district. Teeter also had two hits and drove in a pair of runs.
